Elect Carolyn Vaughn
Today the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in a historic decision that reinstates the ability of individual states to protect unborn babies.
As a Christian, I am thankful that God has provided us with Supreme Court justices who are willing to take a stand for life. While we should rejoice in this ruling, it should not end our fight to protect our most vulnerable citizens. There is more to be done.
Sometimes those of us who are pro-life are criticized as being anti-abortion but not offering help to ensure those babies will be taken care of in the crucial months following their birth.
The Texas legislature began that process last session by extending Medicaid health care coverage to six months after the baby is born and is investing millions of dollars in women’s health programs and the Alternatives to Abortion program. That program provides counseling and helps mentor young mothers as well as provides baby supplies and housing to mothers who need help.
That was a good first step for Texas which is one of 13 states with a trigger law in place that will immediately begin saving lives.
As your next state legislator, I will help lead the fight to save unborn children and provide a safety net to moms in need, and ensure that Texas children receive the care they need.
I will particularly urge faith-based groups to partner with and get involved with efforts to make these children’s lives healthy and successful.
