Working On Issues With Other Officials

One of the things we need to do as a city council is to work with legislators and other state officials  on issues important to the Coastal Bend and to our city — issues like windstorm insurance reform, moving our oil and gas industry forward and the possibility of industrial desalination funded by our refineries and private industry.

That’s why I’m already working hard to discuss these important issues with people like State Rep. Todd Hunter, who is a statewide leader on windstorm insurance and on desalination, and State Rep. J.M. Lozano of Kingsville, who has teamed with Hunter on windstorm insurance sits on the Natural Resources Committee in the state legislature on oil and gas issues.

I want to know what we can do as local officials and as citizens in Corpus Christi and the surrounding area to help these lawmakers when they are in Austin fighting the good fight for all of us throughout the Coastal Bend. Our entire city council should be involved with helping them find the best and right solutions to these issues on a regional basis.

For a lot of our issues, finding a solution must be a regional approach and so I am excited that both of these men — one from Corpus Christi and the other from Kingsville –are working with people across the state to find real, workable solutions to will benefit us as a state and as a region.

When I am elected to City Council in District1, I will work to help these lawmakers anyway possible as your representative.
